Steam Locomotive in Aizu, Fukushima Prefecture

Others

Currently, steam locomotives is operated between Niigata and Aizu-Wakamatsu, Fukushima Prefecture in some weekends.

I took the picture attached in April 19th, 2015. In that day, a steam locomotive was specially operated between Aizu-Wakamatsu and Koriyama in Fukushima Prefecture. I thought this is a chance I can take photos of the steam locomotive with Mt. Bandaisan which is referred to as a treasure mountain in the folk song, “Aizu Bandaisan”. As you can see in the photo, Mt. Bandaisan in the back of the steam locomotive looks triangle shape on the top and is called Aizu Fuji, Mt. Fuji in Aizu current Fukushima Prefecture. Mt. Bandaisan is selected as one of 100 famous mountains in Japan and a symbol of Fukushima Prefecture.

Currently, all steam locomotives were taken over by electric trains and diesel trains. However, some steam locomotives remain with maintenance and in weekends and holidays, some of them are still specially operated because people can remember old days.

If you are interested, I recommend you to check JR (Japan Railway Company) websites if such events are planned.
