A Temple on 1,425 Stairs

Temples in Aichi, Japan

This is another Deva Gate in front of the Horaiji Temple located in Shinshiro City, Aichi Prefecture. It is told that the Horaiji Temple was opened by Rishu who is a hermit. It is also told that around 1,300 years ago, an imperial messenger was sent to Rishu when Emperor Monmu was sick and Rishu flew over to Kyoto on a phoenix and cured the illness by performing a faith cure for 7days.

The emperor established a temple as thanks to him. The temple was named as “Horaiji” which means a phoenix coming temple in Japanese.

To reach the mail hall of the Horaiji Temple, you need to climb the 1,425 stairs. This is good for your exercise. This is also one of my favorite temples in Aichi Prefecture, Japan.
