There are four kannon temples in Nagoya which are located in four directions from the Nagoya Castle. Those directions are “Kimon” by seeing from the Nagoya Castle. “Kimon” means unlucky direction. By building temples in such direction from the Nagoya Castle, we, Japanese, believe that those temples protect the castle from demons.
The temple called Arako-Kannon in my previous blog is located in West-southwest direction from the Nagoya Castle. There is another temple called Ryusenji-Kannon in Nagoya which is one of four kannon temples in Nagoya and which Enku also left 560 Buddha statues. This temple is located in East-northeast direction from the Nagoya Castle.
In Ryusenji-Kannon, there is a treasure building which has 200 Buddha statues out of 560. The big one in the photo is one of them.
